When I wrote my first post here, it was 2021. That was the start of my journey. It’s now 2026, five years later, and I figured it was time to answer the obvious question: where have I been, and what have I been doing?
After that first post, I took the rest of 2021 off. No real plans. I just needed time to figure out what I was going to do next.
In 2022, I got hired at Cochlear doing device support. When I started, it felt like customer service. Over time, it turned into more of a call center. And I’ve realized I don’t want to be in a call center.
Before Cochlear, I worked in hotels, including as a manager. Recently Kali told me something that put words to what I’d been feeling. In customer service, you fix the problem. In a call center, you deal with the problem. The moment I heard that, it clicked. I’m tired of dealing with problems.
That’s a big part of why I’m going to study to become a bookkeeper. In bookkeeping, everything has its place. Things belong where they belong, and your job is to put them there and make it all add up. That appeals to me.
The plan is to work for myself and eventually start my own business. I’ve been saving up for this for a while now, and everything’s lined up and ready to go.
So that’s where I’m at today. Five years ago I was just getting started, and in a way, I’m starting again. Only this time I’ve got a lot more behind me. We’ll see what happens. I’m excited.
